Beschreibung

Bill Chambers' book My Chicago Activist Life: From Ireland to Palestine 1968-2025 is unlike any other memoir. Not only is it one person's activist life but also an over 50-year participant history of the major social justice movements in Chicago. Beginning with Anti-Racism organizing; 1968 Democratic Convention Protests; Stopping the Vietnam War; Northwestern Student Strike; Irish Republican Fight for United Ireland; Palestine Solidarity; Black Lives Matter; Community Control of the Police; Stopping the Abuses of the War on Terrorism; Fighting Islamophobia; 2024 Democratic National Convention Protest; Ending the Genocidal War on Gaza; and finishing with the ongoing Resistance to the Trump Administration. My Chicago Activist Life demonstrates how the intersectionality and solidarity between social justice movements is the key characteristic and strength of modern activism. Beyond covering this history and wide-range of activism, the author was a writer and photographer for the Chicago Monitor and the Muslim Journal, and wrote articles for the Electronic Intifada, Muslim Matters, Muslim Journal and Palestine in America. He has also documented his work with community groups in Ireland and Palestine as well as multiple social justice groups in Chicago. His narrative includes articles, photographs, poetry, and presentations of events in Chicago history and in the social justice history of the nation. His previous books are Huwarra Watercolors (poetry and photos about his trips to Palestine) and The Muslim American Fight for Social Justice: From Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter.
