The story is told from the perspective of Nick Carraway, a young man who moved to Long Island and witnessed the high society of that time. Through his eyes, the reader sees tragedy, the collapse of ideals and the deep loneliness of the characters. The novel touches on the themes of the American dream, love, greed and moral emptiness, making it relevant to this day. The text of the novel is adapted for level B2 and is supplied with a glossary.
