Beschreibung
Menelaus of Alexandria (1st century CE) is the author of the treatise Sphaerica and as of a treatise on fluid statics. Both of these works only survive in Arabic translations. This book provides an editio princeps of Menelaus’s second text as well as the recently discovered commentary thereon, written by the philosopher and scholar Muhammad ibn al-Haytham (10th–11th century).
Rezensionen
Jean De Groot in: BMCR 2023.02.25
"Rashed has added to our knowledge of Menelaus and made a comparison of Archimedes and Menelaus more accessible to students of ancient mechanics. At the same time, he has made an important addition to the history of mechanics in medieval Islam. This erudite and meticulously executed book will hold the attention of any reader interested in a more complete retrieval of Hellenistic mathematics and mechanics."
