Beschreibung

The publication is a compilation of works of art accompanied with a writing like, a poem, title and brief description of artwork, a brief biography, reflections, a story, etc. The book features female artists who "embody a strong voice, their visions and how they (artworks) show up in our world." Outreach to Black and Brown women hailing from the immediate Washington, D.C. area as well as other artists residing in other cities. A story that was inspired by the artwork hanging on a wall at an exhibit at “The Phillips Collection,” Washington, D.C. There, centered in the midst of an exhibit featuring renowned artist Alma Thomas, noticing a plaque which read, “Mary Beth Edelson, b. 1933, East Chicago, Indiana; d. 2021, Ocean Grove, New Jersey, “Some Living American Women Artists,” 1972. After further research, I discovered in “Circa 1971, artist Mary Beth Edelson led protests over the exclusion of women artists from that year’s Corcoran Gallery of Art Biennial.” Captivated: Fearfully, Wonderfully Made! awaits the discerning eyes and minds to look upon these gifted and talented women who have not always been featured in major venues for the world to admire. Remember, this is just the tip of the ice berg. Black and other women of hues, meet the artists -- We Are Here, Everywhere!
